After a long wait, Mumbai Kaakka was launched by Kakanadan, handing over the first issue to Adoor Gopalakrishanan on 12th September 2010. The function, held at Vashi Kerala House, was also attended by Bose Krishnamachari, VR Sudhish and Balakrishanan as well as people from different walks of life including veteran journalist PK Ravindranath, Vijayakumar, GT Varghese, PR Krishnan, Upendra Menon, MG Radhakrishnan, Surendrababu, Anita Thampi, Maroor and Balaji. About 250 people from various parts of Mumbai came for the launch.
The contributors for the first issue include Kakanadan, Satchidanandan, Viju V Nair, Akbar Kakkattil, P Surendran, Bonny Thomas, Manasi, KV Mohankumar, Kattoor Murali, Sreejith, Babu Kuzhimattom, Anita Thampi, S Joseph, Manamboor Rajan Babu, AS Narayanan, KP Ramesh, Suraj Rajan, KR Tony, and Sebastian.
The article on Shaji N Karun's Ktty Srank was much appreciated, being the first serious review on the film. Also, the cover, designed by Prabhashankar and his page3 team of Palakkad also grab attention.
